![]() ![]() He isn’t interested in obtaining and keeping Candy (or for that matter killing her to prevent her from leaving him). He holds out for a moment until he can confirm that Boa is absent but then his obsessiveness over her fades. It isn’t until the third book that he loses his obsessive interest in Candy. He does not care that Boa hasn’t shown herself and the sixteen year old Candy is the only obvious personality. The subtext of their exchange and Carrion’s reaction to finding out about Boa feels like Carrion would have done the exact same actions to keep Candy. 444 of Days of Magic Night of War (once again this is from my copy). This is emphasized the exchange between him and Mater Motley on pg. Even when he finds out Boa is in Candy he is still intent on having Candy. At this point, neither Carrion nor Candy knows about her harboring Boa’s soul so he is just portrayed as having great interest in Candy. ![]() When he has her in his clutches he does the exact same thing he did with Boa in having the ‘if I can’t have you no one can mindset.’ If Candy wouldn’t remain with him after all his different attempts and approaches, he was fully intending to kill her. The second book doesn’t do much else to redeem him of the complete obsession he seems to have for her. Neither is the book ending with him repeating her name over and over “…as though repetition would somehow summon up the owner and bring her to him.” (pg. I get the ‘We have to capture her to acquire the key to move along evil plans’ but keeping the footage to watch her on repeat? Not exactly normal treatment of a sixteen year old girl (even if you believe its someone you know). ![]() His first ‘encounter’ is seeing her displayed through Pixler’s insect camera. So, in the first book the first instance we see of Carrion learning about Candy is via Shape after failing to catch Mischief. So, I really couldn’t care less on any shipping.Īlso, I will say I do not think it intentional on Clive Barker’s part for there to be anything read as pedophilia but it can be easily viewed in such a way up until the third book. Let me clarify, I don’t have any particular ships for the series (I just really love Clive’s writing and this was my first book by him alongside Carrion being a favorite character for easily over a decade now). On one hand, I know where you’re coming from but on the other I don’t feel like what you’re saying matches up 100% with Christopher Carrion from canon. Please stop making my comfort character a pedophile. I think he felt a strong connection to her because of Boa, however I don’t think he was projecting his feelings for Boa onto Candy herself, I think he feels an entirely different way towards Candy, a passionate way, but not romantic. I think people misinterpret Christopher’s admiration of Candy as something sexual or romantic. Christopher is a little fucked up but he’s not fucked up enough that he’d have sexual feelings for a literal child. Candy is underage in the books, and Christopher Carrion is a grown man. I’m supportive of everyone’s ships but you have to understand, it pisses me off when people try to make one of my favorite characters a fucking pedophile. Ugh hi so I don’t mean to sound like a bitch but do Christopher x Candy shippers realize that Candy is a minor? ![]()
